Normandy Guitars, an independent American guitar manufacturer founded by Jim Normandy, features a brand of guitars you don’t normally see. While virtually all other guitar manufacturers, both large and small, create wood based guitars built overseas, Normandy guitars are made almost entirely out of high grade aircraft aluminum created right here in America. I found this creation to be especially interesting once I heard the guitar in action on some of the demo videos posted on their website (and also when I realized that I could use the term “All Metal Guitars” in my header). As Jim mentions while demonstrating, the guitar is not harsh in tone, but instead provides a clean, crisp sound.
It is obvious that Jim is not looking to take over America with his brand, but instead to carve out his own market for this specialized guitar. Aluminum guitars are not new, but this classic design in an age when crazy designs and paintjobs lead the pack (how many Dimebag tribute guitars can we have anyway?!), is definitely refreshing. This is a high end guitar with guitar ethusiasts in mind. It would seem to me that a full, polished, chrome guitar would be a match made in heaven for metal, certainly more original than your standard jet black flying V.
